Midleton Academy trip

Midleton Academy trip 8th-11th August 2016

Leading bartenders from London and Liverpool were taken to the home of Irish Whiskey, Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork, Ireland. It was a packed three day itinerary and we stayed at the FOTA Island Resort.

Day One consisted of a sea fishing trip off the Kinsale coast on the Silver Dawn. The Academy started at the distillery with a tour of the old distillery led by tutor, Dave McCabe, before heading into the purpose built Academy. We went through both Pot and Column distillation, tasting of new make and aged whiskey and maturation, finishing with a cask tasting in the warehouse. We ended the day with dinner at Sage, an award winning restaurant, that sources all its ingredients from a 12 mile radius.

The second day of the Academy started with a Coopering demo with the amazing fifth generation Midleton Cooper, Ger Buckley. We also had a blending session as well as a peek into the Midleton archive with Carol Quinn. Our closing dinner was at the world renown Ballymalloe House!

As always everyone was amazed with the hospitality, wisdom and stunning world class facilities at Midleton. Awe have once again showcased to these leading bartenders what Single Pot Still Whiskey is all about , and why Midleton Distillery is the best in the business!!
